It hit me like a ton of bricks! I couldn't believe...
When I was younger I had this preconceived notion that anyone could go out and be a success. That you didn't need an education to succeed at life. All you needed was a strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever it took. I couldn't of been more wrong, while the strong work ethic and willingness to do anything will help you to be successful. It wasn't everything needed, by far. I have worked in the restaurant industry for over ten years in a variety of jobs, ranging from a host in my first job to a front of house manager. My strong work ethics and willingness constantly moved me along in all of the restaurants quickly. But I always seemed to get hung up right before I could achieve something to be proud of. I had worked for three years and finally was allowed to take a vacation, I decided to take this opportunity to spend some time with someone whom I knew I could trust to give sound advice. I took my vacation with my Dad, a successful CPA who had an incredible reputation as someone to trust. It was a hard thing to listen to someone else's opinion of my life but it needed to be done, many truths were said and hard to accept. I had to receive an education to complete the path to success. There was one thing that I could take from that trip that I will always carry with me. One night, late my father and I were atop a rooftop bar in downtown Charleston. He told me that he always would be supportive of me but there was something he had never told me because he thought it was to soon to say. I had always provided for myself and never asked for help because I was under the impression that it was a weak man that asked for help, it was a strong man that perseveres. My dad that night for the first time ever told me he was proud to call me his son, he wanted more for me but he no longer worried for me. He told me that he never really pushed me because he knew that it was I that had to find my own way, and he knew I would. I wanted to go back to school but didn't think I would succeed, it was my dad's pride that encouraged me. It is my fathers pride that revitalised the pride I have in myself and due to that I will succeed. It hit me like a ton of bricks! I couldn't believe that Father Knew Best!
